Donnelly is Back Home!
A month ago, Donnelly went to A&M to have a chip removed from his rear fetlock. Two days after the surgery, he developed a small colon impaction colic. That caused him to start shedding salmonella. Then, he pulled his catheter out of his neck with his back hoof and that site got infected. The whole time I said someone needed to get him a Bad News Bears jersey. So, for the first 3 1/2 weeks, he had to be in a solitary stall in ICU where he understandably got very depressed (picture to right). Once he tested negative for salmonella he got to move to a regular stall then we got to bring him home yesterday! His neck is healing slowly, but should be fine. His ankle is holding up real well, and after another 4 weeks of stall rest and minimal turnout in our small paddock, he should be good as new. We are just glad to have him home!
