The week of November 17th, Sarah had to go through some procedures as a one-year follow-up to make sure there were not any potentially cancerous cells still hanging around. Thankfully, she did not have to get off her thyroid medicine for a month this time, instead having to get two injections of Thyrogen to spike her TSH. Then, she had to take a small dose of the same radioactive iodine that she had last year. The gamma ray body scan followed, looking for any "bright lights" that would indicate active cells.
Yesterday, we went to see Dr. Fox for the results, and she said everything looked clean, clear and wonderful!! Sarah's thyroid levels are back to normal, and now the weight is off her shoulders that she won't have to do another round of heavy radiation and hospital stays. Essentially, Sarah is now officially thyroid cancer free!! It's the best Christmas present we could have hoped for. On top of that, Sarah's voice is almost completely back. There is much to be thankful for.
