Well, we've had a roller coaster of a week with Donnelly. On Monday morning, he has orthoscopic surgery to remove the bone chip from his hind leg. The surgery went fine, but on Wednesday evening he began to colic due to a small intestine impaction that had formed. For those of you who aren't horse folks, colic is bad news for horses. Luckily, he was still at A&M, and they jumped right on the treatment for it. He was moved to ICU isolation and put on IV fluids and given mineral oil and electrolytes through a nasal tube. Thursday and Friday were pretty scary, as we weren't sure which way he would go. He was NOT a happy camper (see picture from Thursday). Worst case scenario, he would have had to have surgery. But, Saturday he made a turn for the better and by Sunday was acting much more like his old self. They have started feeding him slowly, and as soon as he starts having normal bowel movements, he should be released. We've arranged for him to stay at a special rehab center near A&M while we are in Nashville so that we won't be worried about him.
