Jay is excited at this opportunity to work with professors and researchers from around the world, who have pooled their research funds to rent this ship for this expedition. He has grown a full beard to keep him warm, and will have to wear extreme weather suits as needed on the ship. He plans to learn French during his downtime at sea. Upon his return, Jay should graduate in May 2010 after defending his double thesis. We are so proud of little Jaybo!!! And, glad to be experiencing this adventure vicariously through him.

My Antarctic Brother
Sarah's younger brother, Jay, is going to Antarctica in January for 2 months on a research ship in conjunction with getting his Master's from Florida State Univeristy in Oceanography. Jay surprised us all by choosing to get his Bachelor's in Physics, but his love is for the water. He gets it honest, as the Hooper men are a long line of sailors and captains, from Daddy Jim who retired as a Captain after 30 years in the Navy, to my grandfather Hooper who also retired as a Captain from the Navy, and on back to the Vikings!
