25 Random Things About Sarah

1. My childhood nickname is “Turt”. This stemmed from a tragic 7th grade spring photo taken, in which I refused to smile because of my braces and the photographer told me to put my chin up. When I got the resulting photo package, friend Kristen instantly said “You look just like a turtle!”. And thus my nickname, and fondness for turtles, was born.
2. When I was 19, I got a tattoo on my right ankle, which I designed myself, of a little turtle standing next to a four-leaf clover.
3. I am pretty scared of heights. This stems from an incident on a Hawaiian ship pier when I was 10-years-old and was trying to get a better look at some sharks feeding and almost fell into them. Thankfully, my friend jerked me back in time, because it would have been a long fall with a gruesome ending.
4. I think I have a book in me. I feel compelled to write one someday, but I’m just not sure what it will be about.
5. I’m really bad at holding grudges, and I’m talking like for years. At some point, I’ll let go, but it usually takes a while.
6. When I smile, I have a dimple beside my right eye, instead of on my cheeks or chin.
7. I love puzzles. I can do crosswords and Sudoku all day long.
8. My earliest memory is of a poster with a Budweiser Clydesdale running through the snow.
9. I’ve had a strange menagerie of cars over the past 14 years, in order: BMW 733, 97 Firebird, 01 Firebird, 02 4Runner, 01 Mercedes SUV, 06 Dodge Ram 2500 MegaCab (current).
10. I am currently on the Board of Directors and Treasurer of the Irish Draught Horse Society of North America
11. I have my Special Olympics Equestrian coaching certification.
12. It takes a lot to make me mad, but once I am, it is Hurricane Sarah. My daddy says it’s because I have a lot of Irish in me.
13. In 2007, I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and had a thyroidectomy. The surgery bruised my vocal nerve, and I couldn’t talk for almost a year. I still can’t laugh yet.
14. In 2008, I completed the Country Music Half Marathon in Nashville. I trained with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and raised $5,300 for them.
15. I secretly want to be an FBI agent. More specifically, I want to be a profiler, like on the tv show Criminal Minds. I love to study people, and my strong sense of justice wants to put the bad guys away.
16. A lady at work has been training me to analyze handwriting. It is a fascinating practice, because like it or not, your handwriting is a window to your soul.
17. I have a thing about teeth. I think it is because mine were so crooked before braces. Teeth are the first thing I look at when I meet someone. They don’t have to be straight, per se, but definitely flossed and clean!!! White is a big bonus. I bleach my teeth regularly.
18. I do not eat ground meat. There is some mental block in my head against the sight of it. My mama said even as a baby I wouldn’t eat it. I have never eaten a hamburger (nor will I ever!).
19. I don’t like my food to touch or be mixed together, and when possible, I eat one thing at a time in a clockwise fashion off my plate. I also like to smell everything, like a rabbit, before I put it in my mouth. If it doesn’t pass the sniff test, I don’t eat it. I realize I have issues.
20. Now that I have DVR and Sirius radio, I HATE commercials. I refuse to listen to the regular radio or watch anything on TV in real time.
21. I am obsessed with the Twilight series. And, I’m talking like 13-year-old, New Kids on the Block, kind of obsessed.
22. I have lived in Houston for 8 years, which is the longest I’ve ever lived in one location in my life. Growing up a Navy brat, I bounced from Maryland to Florida to Hawaii to California to Rhode Island to California to Hawaii to Louisiana to Florida to Louisiana to Texas. Regardless, I’ve always thought of Louisiana as “home,” as that is where my mom’s family was and is what I considered home base.
23. I gravitate toward rare things. I have Rhodesian Ridgebacks, which are a rare dog breed. I have Irish Draughts, which is a rare horse breed. I have an Alexandrite ring, which is a rare gemstone.
24. I love antiques. Luckily, I have wonderful relatives who pass them down to me. Nothing in my house matches, but I don’t care because each piece is interesting.
25. I have the best friends and family in the whole wide world.
